Navigating Through Change

Organizations eventually reach moments when the path forward is no longer obvious.

Crossroads Consulting works with nonprofit boards and leadership teams to navigate those moments with clarity — whether the work ahead calls for renewal, transition, or responsible endings.

Let Crossroads help you find your way through.

The Crossroads Philosophy

How We Approach Organizational Crossroads

Organizations move through seasons of growth, stability, reinvention, stagnation, and sometimes closure.

Leadership changes, funding evaporates, programs lose momentum, and communities evolve. In these moments, boards must decide what comes next.

Crossroads Consulting helps churches and nonprofit organizations navigate these transitions thoughtfully — discerning when the work calls for renewal and when stewardship may require the decision to close.

I’m Jen Phelps, founder of Crossroads Consulting and a trusted advisor to organizations navigating complexity and change. I have over two decades of legal and leadership experience, including serving as General Counsel at USA Football, Senior Corporate Counsel at dormakaba Americas, and Transition Minister for the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis. I bring a combination of legal precision, strategic insight, and pastoral sensitivity as I guide clients through governance challenges, leadership transitions, risk mitigation, and organizational restructuring. My work has spanned boardrooms and congregations, courtrooms and classrooms.

I earned a law degree from Georgetown University, a Masters of Public Health from Johns Hopkins, and have an undergraduate degree in Microbiology from Miami University.  I am  licensed to practice law in Indiana and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. I am also a trainer in the College for Congregational Development.

I am a neuroendocrine cancer survivor and a single mom of high school twins —experiences that ground my work in resilience, perspective, and a deep understanding of life’s unpredictable turns. I bring that same steady presence to the clients I serve, helping their true selves unfold as they move forward with courage and clarity.
